Your ROV training will be conducted in conjunction with actual diving operations from a purpose built control cabin set up to offshore standards. This guarantees that your training will be realistic.
Course duration: 3 - 4 weeks. (dependant on course numbers)
Pre-requisite qualifications. (Offshore operations only)
* Trade qualification in one of the following:
- Hydraulics;
- Electrical; or
- Electronics.
* For those persons not holding an appropriate trade qualification it is likely that there will be the availability of gap training. This will take the form of a short course run by TAFE specifically designed to cover the hydraulic and electrical pre-requisite requirements. Such training is to be endorsed by industry bodies.
The course is designed to develop an understanding of the systems used to support and operate ROV’s.
There is a substantial theoretical component, the topics relating to ROV operations and systems. There is considerable emphasis on system fault finding and repair.
The practical component of training will involve all aspects associated with ‘flying’ the machines. You will accrue a minimum of 10 hours of actual flight time. This training will be conducted on industry standard modern inspection class vehicle equipped with a five function manipulator system and sonar imaging.
During practical training you will use the ROV to monitor actual diving operations. (occupational diver training will often be conducted at the same time). Safely controlling ROV’s in the immediate vicinity of divers is an important aspect of training.
The course has been designed to encompass as a minimum all of the requirements of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA). The number of actual flight hours logged under training will be substantially more than the IMCA minimum requirements.
The ROV Certificate of Competency
Upon successful completion of the course you will receive the following certifications
- A certificate of compliance with the requirements of the International Marine Contractors (IMCA) standards. This is the current benchmark industry qualification.
- The Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) card
- An Australian Vocational Education Training Certificate
Currently UTCSA is the only training provider in Australia able to deliver this broad range of qualifications.
Other qualifications necessary before going ‘offshore’.
As well as your ROV certificate of competence you will need the following qualifications
- Offshore medical certificate (OPTI or UKOOA);
- Basic offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET); &
- Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET).
